Biography of The Last Embrace  Biography |  The Last Embrace was formed during the year 1998 at the time of the meeting between Vik (bass), Vanessa (keyboards) and Olivier (guitar). A simple advertisement made it possible to bring together. A concert of The Gathering and here Alexis, with the drums.
The work of composition can then start. The first pieces, still at the state of outline, reminds that it always miss a second guitarist. Olivier meets Jean-Marc in his music school (this last will play in the band until January 2005).
The band auditions a great number of singers and female singers to find « The Voice » which will cling to just to the emotions than they want to transmit.
During a recording for a friend sound engineer, Olivier meets Nathalie whose angelic voice seems to incarnate all the requirements of the formation. In the twilight of the year 1999, the line up of The Last Embrace is complete.
In 2000, the style of the band becomes thinner and still continues in atmospheric metal. This is the year for the first gigs and the meeting with Stéphane May (at this time producer of The Old Dead Tree). He will enable them to record their first EP during July 2001. The experiment and the talent of Stéphane give all their dimensions to their songs.
In September 2001, Vanessa decides to leave the band. The following period, the quintet retreats to the studio to flesh out the repertory. The band finds the time to appear on stage. In October 2001, at Anthemon's invitation, the band invests the scene of Rockmania in Angers. Then, follows the Rock springboard of Gibus to Paris « Stargate »,and, in October and November 2002, two shows at the Vaisseau Fantôme.
At the beginning of March 2003, the first 5 titles CD of the combo is available, it is distributed by Musicast. It is at the end of the spring that the band comes back to a formation of six members with the arrival of Gosha, old friend of Alexis.
Strong of its new formation, The Last Embrace faced its first large scene, the seventh edition of the festival de la Rotonde in Hirson (May 31 and June 1, 2003), and thus played with bands like Paradise Lost, Saxon, Shaman, Sonata Arctica, After Forever, Misanthrope, The Old Dead Tree, among other things.
That year, the band received other invitations : Metal Female Voices Fest on November 8, 2003 in Brussels with Epica (organization : Metal Organisation).
In 2004, The Last Embrace made the first part for The Gathering at Elysée-Montmartre (Paris) and took part in the first Rock The Hamster Festival like with other concerts in company of Eve of Destiny, Machina Deus Ex or Asraï.
LThe last quarters 2004 and the beginning of year 2005 are one period a little darker for The Last Embrace. Each one are brought to make decisions which are necessary for them. The band thus starts a new step of its evolution with an important change of line up.
Thus Laurent, their usual sound engineer replaces Jean-Marc at the guitar. Gosha and Nathalie, which to their side cannot continue the adventure, decide to leave.
The Last Embrace gives a last acoustic gig with Nathalie in Paris (with the band The Black Noodle Project).
The band doesn't wait a long time for a new clavierist with the arrival of Pierre-Henri (Coco) who already played with Alexis in other combos.
To find a new female singer, advertisements were posted on various musical sites and Sandy convinced the band with her voice which corresponded to waitings of the 5 musicians and with the current musical universe.
It is in August 2005 that The Last Embrace will record its fist album, again with Stéphane May as producer. |
