Biography of Baraka Baraka is an old Sufi word meaning « breath of life » or « blessing».
The band was formed in 1997 by Shin Ichikawa (bass and vocal), Issei Takami (guitar and vocal) et Max Hiraishi (drums and choruses). Although influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson and other artists of the world of the rock of the Sixties and Seventies, they do not have a restrictive vision of the rock. Incorporating as well elements of other types of music such as jazz and funk, the band also explores the possibilities of the trio being based on the musical experiments of each of them.
In the search of originality, the band decided to adopt a progressive approach mixed with a heavy metal feelingl.
After six months of preparation, the band began on stage in April 1998.
Since then, Baraka did not cease turning particularly in Tokyo and these surroundings. The band started its first tour of Japan in July 1999 and turns since regularly everywhere in Japan from Hokkaido to Okinawa.
One of the initial goals of the band was to turn beyond the seas, an ambition which was carried out in December 2000 when they had the opportunity to play in London. Since then they gave many gigs throughout the world and, then their reputation being developed everywhere, 2004 were the occasion to carry out their fifth album, BARAKA, in Australia.
BARAKA made an appearance with PROG' SUD, the international festival of progressive rock in the periphery of Marseilles on May 2006. Among all the bands appearing at this festival, BAKARA had the smallest line-up but was acclaimed like a powerful trio producing a maximum of energy. |
